Monday Musings: My 23 for 2023 Progress

If you haven't heard about Gretchen Rubin's challenge of 23 for 2023, I'm here to share! It is a great alternative to a New Year's Resolution, and I provided some details back in 2021, here. Today's post is to provide a midyear status report on how I'm doing with my goals!

Of course, I store all of this information in my Bullet Journal, which is currently available on Amazon. I'm on my second of these, and it's excellent quality, features more pages than most, and the paper weight supports doodling and daily use.

As in the past, I don't share all of them here on the blog, but I do give a healthy highlight of what I'm trying to accomplish. As I shared back in January, here are a few things I'm working on:

  1. Hit 100 workouts on the Peloton

  2. Finish kitchen updates (more on that here)

  3. Continue reading 2+ books per month

  4. One creative project per month

  5. Go somewhere new for vacation

  6. Research and purchase a new laptop

  7. Catch up on family photo books (this continues from last year)

I also added a few more after my January post, so I'm also trying to:

8. Clean my desks (home and work) once/week

9. Add two go-to meals to our family dinner rotation

10. Install outdoor lighting

And, now for the update! Drumroll please...

  1. I made great progress on the Peloton during the colder months, but I've been taking lots of walks since the weather has warmed! I find that the Lanebreak option is great when I want a tough workout but I can also watch a little TV. So...I've been allowing myself to watch the Charlotte Bridgerton series only while doing Lanebreak, and I'm into the eightees now!

  2. Kitchen updates are complete! Stay tuned for a full post on that.

  3. Continue reading two books per month. I am wayyyyy ahead here, averaging about five books per month so far this year.

  4. I've been averaging about one creative project per month, although I'm about to take on some more complex needlepoint projects, which may slow me down, and that's okay. I'm still adhering to the spirit of the goal.

  5. We are going somewhere new for vacation this year! It's booked, and I'll look forward to sharing my thoughts when we return.

  6. I have researched a new laptop, and I essentially know what I'm interested in. I'll probably wait until Black Friday or Cyber Monday to pull the trigger on this purchase.

  7. I needed to catch up on both our 2021 and 2022 family photo books, and I have completed and printed 2021. I'm still organizing 2022, but I'll get there by year's end. This one is progressing...

  8. In terms of cleaning desks, I'm at about 50%. I have been cleaning my home office weekly, but I've been a bit lax at work due to a lot going on. If things slow down a bit, I'll definitely make an effort to keep things tidier there too.

  9. Ugh. I have not added any meals to our family dinner rotation. Both my kids have changed lunch preferences, so I've been trying to navigate that lately. This is something to tackle in the second half of the year!

  10. Install outdoor lighting. Check--we hired a great lighting person who knocked this out in one day!

I'm feeling good about this progress and what I can continue to accomplish this year! For more about this process or Gretchen Rubin (one of my favorite authors), check out her website.
