Let’s Take a Mental Break!

We’re approaching one of the busiest times of the year — the end of the school year stretch. For those of us with high school seniors, our mental load is hitting an all-time high. It’s important that we prioritize our own needs because it affects our relationships, work performance and physical health.
One of the most effective strategies for managing stress is taking a break from all of it. I am regularly going on walks, and in the evening, making time to decompress by watching a show. My to-do list only seems to grow, but developing an evening routine that makes space for relaxation does help. I’m also trying to make good food choices and to avoid Easter candy, if at all possible.

Another important strategy is practicing mindfulness. Having a high school senior is emotional. It’s easy to fall into a cycle of sadness and grief while celebrating the “last moments,” so I try to remind myself of the excitement and beauty in the opportunities ahead for my graduate.
Hang in there, parents! We’re weeks away from summer. We can do this! Take a break and remember that resetting can be the answer to overwhelm.
