A few weeks ago, our family's Perisan cat unexpectedly crossed the rainbow bridge. Since it was sudden, and Milo was just eight years old, it's been difficult to process. Fortunately, the four of us still living together at home were able to spend time with him before he passed. However, it was extremely difficult to break the news to and comfort our daughter away at college. As you might imagine, she was shocked and heartbroken, having left home less a month prior.

It been nearly 17 years since my husband and I had to deal with the loss of a pet. It's always surprising how much it truly affects you. Our furbabies have a special place in our hearts. We loved Milo. He was a source of calming comfort and offered great snuggles. He had a wonderful disposition and was especially close to our middle child.

Our house isn't the same without him. We still find his fur around the house and on our clothes, which brings each of us a tinge of sadness with a smile to quickly follow. We are fortunate to have had a special cat who was loyal, loving and patient. We miss Milo dearly. He left his mark on our hearts forever. Below are two quotes that offer me comfort in this time of sadness:

“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” — Winnie The Pooh “No amount of time can erase the memory of a good cat, and no amount of masking tape can ever totally remove his fur from your couch.” — Leo Dworken
