Monday Musings: Summertime Nostalgia

After a long school year, I'm truly looking forward to the slower pace of the next few months. Although my kids will have some important commitments, it's really nice that our schedule has a good amount of flexibility and we plan to travel a couple of times.

My favorite childhood and teenage memories, aside from the holidays, happened during the summer months. Although during my middle school and high school years I had early morning practices and camps, I fondly remember sleeping in, spending afternoons at the pool, hanging out with friends in the evenings at the ballpark, movie theater, county fair or any other places we decided to gather. They were good times! Ah, the 90s!

I'm excited for summer and below are a few quotes that give me all the summer feels!

"Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August."

- Jenny Han

"In the summer, the days were long, stretching into each other. Out of school, everything was on pause and yet happening at the same time, this collection of weeks when anything was possible."

–Sarah Dessen

"'Cause a little bit of summer is what the whole year is about."

- John Mayer

"Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability."

—Sam Keen

“Summer, after all, is a time when wonderful things can happen to quiet people. For those few months, you’re not required to be who everyone thinks you are, and that cut-grass smell in the air and the chance to dive into the deep end of a pool give you a courage you don’t have the rest of the year. You can be grateful and easy, with no eyes on you, and no past. Summer just opens the door and lets you out.”

— Deb Caletti

" Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time."

—John Lubbock

Happy Summer!
