It's the last month of my 12 Months of Tidy! I've made it! Last month was a lot of work with my second round dedicated to the kitchen, so I decided to close out this project with a small, simple space--our Guest Bedroom.
This doubles as a second office and my craft space, so it has to play a lot of roles for our family. Also, it's a really small room that is primarily used by my husband, so I don't plan to make many changes this month. With everything else going on with the holidays, this is a quick spruce up to close out my year-long project.
As I do each month, I'm starting with the first of these three steps:
Clear, clean and repair. Identify any materials needed in advance to make this possible.
Assess how we use the space for making improvements.
Identify ways to maintain it more easily going forward.
I will need just minimal supplies (and a lot of elbow grease) for a deep clean:
carpet rake
carpet steamer
microfiber cloth
cleaning spray
duster
trash bags
Clear
In every room, I start with sorting initial items into trash, donate and relocate. If things are not useful and in the right place, they go into one of these three piles. For this room, I will need to go through the small closet that houses some miscellaneous "fancy" clothes and my craft supplies. There are also some old hats, purses, and home decor that can probably be donated.
Clean
I'm in the midst of this phase right now. I need to dust the fan and surfaces, then wipe them all down. Because it's a small space and I use embroidery adhesive and lots of threads, the carpets really need to be cleaned! I'll steam those after I wipe the rest of the space down.
Repairs
There are no repairs needed. Woohoo!
It's a small, but mighty, room. It serves many purposes and needs a little attention from that heavy use. Later this month, I'll have a good time organizing my craft supplies in the corner of the room that brings me lots of joy!
