Earlier this month, I covered the clearing, cleaning and repairs for our back patio. That post was on the first of my three-step process:
Serious clear, clean and repair.
Assess how we use the space for making improvements.
Identify ways to maintain it more easily going forward.
I swept, wiped down surfaces, and hosed down the outdoor cushions. We replaced our broken outdoor string lights. We mulched, weeded and landscaped the adjacent garden bed.
Assess for Improvements:
There are a number of improvements I've made in the last two weeks.
I added this small Ikea plant shelf to store citronella candles and watering cans. Before, they were gathering dirt and spiderwebs sitting in the corner, and now they are well-organized with no spiders!
We used to have a backyard vegetable garden, but we weren't great at maintaining it. I also saw a rodent in there once, and I did not want to share my veggies with them! We planted some peppers, tomatoes and basil in pots to provide greenery on the patio and tasty additions to summer salads.
Maintenance:
This outdoor space needed a few easy maintenance items to make the rest of summer a breeze.
This will be our third set of dropcloth curtains. I will wash and save the old, torn ones for actual paint dropcloths--imagine that!
Batteries and new fairy lights for our outdoor lanterns.
Now we can enjoy evenings and barbecues with maximum ambience!
