Tuesday Morning Tidy: Home Inspiration Part 2

I shared some of my favorite home inspiration books early last month that you can find here.

I'm back today to share two of my favorite (and actually only) magazine subscriptions, both of which focus on home design and decor. They are are very different, and provide me with two kinds of information and enjoyment.

The first is HGTV Magazine, a Hearst magazine that features content from a lot of well known HGTV shows, as well as bloggers and designers. Most magazines showcase a theme, such as "Color" or "Pattern," and they are really visually appealing. One of my favorite features in each of the issues is "the high/low list," where a series of designer pieces are shown alongside very similar budget pieces, so an identical look can be achieved no matter the reader's budget.

The most recent issue I received was the 10th anniversary issue, and I believe I've been a subscriber for most of those ten years. A few years ago, I was fortunate to come across a photo of a kitchen very similar to ours that has served as the inspiration for a number of upgrades over the last couple of years.

When I find decor pieces I really like, I often track them down on Pinterest and save them to my relevant board, while this particular kitchen image has been clipped to the side of our refrigerator since I found it.

The other design magazine I receive is House Beautiful, also by Hearst. I find this to be a more sophisticated, high end publication. It is definitely less practical for me, but the homes featured (often of very successful or elite designers) are breathtaking.

I am most inspired by the skilled combining of patterns by the designers featured in this publication. In one recent issue, there was a living room with at least nine different patterns, from the pillows to the rug, and it was so inviting! Another bedroom in this same home had nearly that number of patterns, yet the designer made it look effortless and relaxing.

The photography in House Beautiful is outstanding, and there are often full spread images and a wide variety of design styles to suit any reader's preference.

If you are looking for a little inspiration, and you'd like to receive it regularly by mail, these are two of the best magazines out there! I subscribe via my Amazon account, and it gives me flexibility to renew or cancel with the click of a button, while also taking advantage of automatic renewal and discounts available.
