Tuesday Morning Tidy: The Value of Hooks

We recently rented a beach house for our family vacation. It had been renovated after several particularly destructive hurricanes, and it was adequately outfitted with everything you might need for a week's stay. But there was something noticeable missing, and it affected us the entire trip...
There were no hooks.
Typically, a beach (or lake) home would have hooks everywhere. Hooks outside to hang life jackets and towels. Hooks inside to hang wet swimsuits. Hooks for sun hats and beach bags. Nothing.
When we returned home, I started to notice that while we have plenty of racks and hooks, there were a few areas where a small hook could solve a big problem. I'll share some of them in my next 12 Months of Tidy post, but in the meantime, here are few of my favorite hook solutions:
These JORDMÅNEN hooks from Ikea can be purchased in sets of two for $3.99. You can hang them as shown or flipped upside down, and you can add as many as you need. They're artistic but inexpensive, and powdered coated so they work great in a bathroom.
Years ago, I bought a great rack from Pottery Barn for our laundry room. It stores all of our backpacks and sports bags. And the quality is necessary for the amount of use it gets. Just make sure you secure it into the studs! Here is a similar one:
I usually see something like these wooden peg racks for outdoor hanging. It's a way better solution than wet towels strewn over the backs of all the chairs.
These magnetic hooks are also amazing if you need a very strong, but temporary, solution. Or, like us, you can move them up or down depending on the length of the towel you are hanging.
The next time you are looking for a storage or organizing solution, consider hooks first!
