To kick off the second half of the year, I'm starting with my home office. I'm starting, as always, with the first of the three steps below--Clear, Clean and Repair.
Clear, clean and repair. Identify any materials needed in advance to make this possible.
Assess how we use the space for making improvements.
Identify ways to maintain it more easily going forward.
This room has been featured the most of any on the blog, and you may remember that it wasn't all that long ago that I created this room out of our children's former playroom. Here it was when it was initially completed:

I've replaced the prints behind the desk with a black and white photo, we've installed shutters on the windows, and I have two matching bookcases on the left side of the desk (replacing the chair).
It gets heavy use, though! I'll need some supplies for a few touch ups in the space:
stain for nicks in the desk
mineral oil for the wood on the console
duster
Cleaning/microfiber cloths
Clear
In every room, I start with sorting initial items into trash, donate and relocate. If things are not useful and in the right place, they go into one of these three piles. For this room, the console behind the desk is the primary storage zone. There are games stored in one, and office supplies in the other. Both need to be sorted in the next week or two.
Clean
As with any office space, the electronics need to be dusted. I have a great tiny vacuum that also blows air into keyboards to remove all those little crumbs and particles. Then I will wipe everything down on the desk and bookshelves.
Repairs
The desk gets nicks from my office chair and opening and closing drawers. I'll touch those up with stain that I've found to be a near-perfect match!
In two weeks, I'll be reporting back on mostly organizational updates with paperwork and supplies that will help keep this space productive.
