What I'm Loving: SodaStream

Sparkle news: We love our SodaStream! Right before Earth Day this year, my brother-in-law bought a SodaStream. Yes, they've been around for years, but I've never actually known anyone with one. But he was raving about it! So, I listened.

A few hours later, I was on SodaStream.com with the Art model in my cart (but there are quite a few to consider). Look for promo codes! A few months later, I'm sharing all that I've learned about owning a SodaStream.

If your family leaves cans of sparkling water everywhere, you need one of these. Before the SodaStream, we had mostly-full cans scattered all over the house every evening because our kids opened them and went to bed before they finished. It was a waste of money and seemed terrible for the environment, and the guilt was real.

Everyone gets a bottle. (I get three.) I purchased a half liter bottle for each of my children. When it's empty, they refill it. They don't get a new bottle! Occasionally, it gets washed (dishwasher safe). This results in fewer cups, cans and glasses strewn about our house, and I love it!

Be gentle. One of my kids was a little rough with the lever to get the water sparkling. It literally broke the SodaStream. However, with the device still under warranty, they replaced it right away! At least, I think that's what happened. No one was especially forthcoming with details...great customer service, by the way. (My kids also destroyed a brand new Keurig, so we're 0 for 2 on beverage devices!)

We exchange CO2 filters through the SodaStream website. We have three at a time: one in the machine, and two ready for exchange. When I purchase two new ones, I have two empties ready to go, thus lowering their cost by half. This is the only necessary expense once you purchase the machine. However, I usually stock up on a few Bubbly flavors when I order so I get free shipping and we have our favorite concentrates available (strawberry and pineapple).

Plain water is great! When we don't have concentrates available, I really enjoy the plain sparkling water. However, you can also make sodas and Kombucha with the device, and they are quite good.

I paid for all of this myself, and purchased with the hope of spending less money and lessening our family's environmental impact, both of which I think we will achieve over time. It's also incredibly convenient and family-friendly. We've only purchased three boxes of Bubbly since April, primarily for guests coming over. Prior to the device, we purchased about three boxes per week! I know, I know...

What questions do you have about the SodaStream? I'm happy to share!
